A Survey of China-made Robot Vacuum Cleaners

A Survey of China-made Robot Vacuum Cleaners

Following the wave of robot boom worldwide, China also has made remarkable progress in researching, developing and producing service robots of various types. Robot vacuum cleaners, which have been obtaining more and more market popularity, now top all other service robot in China. Besides those robot cleaners produced by corporations in the U.S., Japan, South Korea, China-made robot cleaners also take up an increasing part of market share, like Homba, KV8, Deepoo, etc.
Compared to Roomba, NaviBot, Trilobite, China-made robot cleaners have the advantage of low price, multi-function and more user-friendliness. Just like other China-made products, robot vacuum cleaners invented by Chinese research institutes and corporations enjoy low labour cost in mass production. Most robot cleaners’ prices range between RMB 1000 to RMB 2500, making them available for more families or offices.
However, low prices do not necessarily mean poor quality. Technologically speaking, those robot cleaners made in China have made favorable progress in such key techniques as multiple sensors, power supplying, positioning method and route-designing. For example, Hoba robot and KV8 series also embody quite mature techniques in designing and manufacturing. To some degree, Hoba robot tops the robot cleaners made by Samsung in South Korea for its anti-bump system, low noise and outer design.
Multiple functions also stand as an advantage of China-made robot cleaners. Most of them (like Hoba robot, KV8 robot) are possessed with such characteristic functions as anti-colliding system, UV bacteria-killing light, time-scheduling, and so on. Those functions show more consideration for Chinese families because they have much busier lifestyle and their houses seem to more easily be troubled by unsanitary floor.
Some robot cleaners even show their creativity and novelty in exterior appearance. For example, Homba H518 invented by ShenZhen Hoba Robot Appliance Corporation has touch-screen panel on the top, which, compared to other types of robots, makes it not only fashionable but also much easier to operate.
Although China-made robot cleaners still fall behind in some advanced technology compared with iRobot or Electrolux, the leading robot cleaner producer, or the materials used by some Chinese producers are not so satisfactory, positive remarks ought to be made on China-made robot cleaners. In the near future, with the rapid development in science and technology as support, China-made robot cleaners may bring much surprise.
