With the most advanced technology in robot research and manufacture, Japanese corporations also invented many robot cleaners of various types. East Japan Railway and Shinko have designed a particular robot cleaner for cleaning the ground of railway stations. This robot can start in any location along a wall, sweeping garbage into the built-in container by means of the rotating brush. JR-EAST has also made a robot to mop and clean the ground of railway station. This robot sprays the washing liquid on the ground and scrubs the sprayed ground continuously with rotating brush in the mean time, then sucks the dirt water into the built-in container. However, this robot can not apply to other kinds of floor.
Hitachi declared in 2003 that it succeeded in developing a robot cleaner for family use. This robot cleaner can move upright on the ground and clean the floor. It has a diameter of only 25cm, standing as the smallest robot cleaner in the world. There are many striking features of this robot. For example, there is a movable suction nozzle on the bottom of the robot, which, as the robot moves to the corner of the room, could stretch out to clean the corner. And, the robot is equipped with a CCD camera, so that users can review the pictures of it by cell phone or personal computer. Besides, once cleaning up is finished, this robot could return to the charging & trash storage station to recharge as well as empty the collected trash and dust.
Despite there are many types of robot cleaners on the market, most of them have those similar technologies in common like route-designing, infrared sensors, positioning, self-recharging, and so on. And the functions are more or less similar, like vacuuming and mopping, automatic cleaning-routes selecting, anti-bumping, etc. Aware of the huge potential in robot vacuum cleaner market, more and more corporations turn their eye to this business. Undoubtedly, in the near future, there will be more choices in the market.
